Teen Accused Of Driving 30 MPH Over Speed Limit In Yorktown School Zone

A teen is facing charges after he allegedly drove 30 mph over the speed limit through a school zone in Northern Westchester, according to police.

Offices initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle speeding on Lexington Avenue on Monday, April 1 around 12:15 p.m., Yorktown Police said.

Further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as 19-year-old Lorenzo McCoy of Peekskill, was operating the vehicle while his driving privileges had been suspended twice for failing to answer summonses, according to police.

McCoy was arrested and transported to Yorktown Police Department. He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, and speeding in a school zone (45 mph in a 15 mph), a traffic infraction.

McCoy was released on $100 bail and is scheduled to return to Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, May 2.
